Dr. Philip C. Ellis was voted to become the pastor of Faith Baptist Church on November 27, 2015, and arrived, on January 10, 2016. He has been married to Lynne since April 23, 1983. Dr. Ellis has been serving as a pastor in Baptist churches since 1990. Although he is very proud of his educational career, he prefers to leave off his doctoral title while serving the church and community. He is generally known as “Bro. Phil” around the church.
He completed his B.A. degree in secondary education at the University of Mississippi while completing a master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.
Bro. Ellis loves sharing the gospel in one-on-one conversations and also loves teaching church members to do the same. He believes the work of “personal evangelism” is the purest form of the Great Commission because it involves every believer individually. He loves the ministry of preaching but maintains that the highest form of his ministry occurs when he comes alongside individuals and families in need of counsel or prayer. He would prefer to think of himself more of a “pastor” than a “preacher.” Still, his passion for preaching is very easy to see.
He was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area of California before his family moved to Mississippi in 1973. He has served in the U.S.A.F. and also lived in Kentucky, where he served as a pastor for 26 years before returning to Mississippi. He and Lynne have one daughter and two grandsons who live in Kentucky.
